TYPE OF PROGRAM
The California Energy Commission offers residential retrofits for eligible low-income
Tribal homes in California to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy
efficiency. Group 1 Tribes receive and manage a direct grant; Group 2 Tribes receive
services from a CEC-selected implementer.
WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR?
Heat pump space conditioning and water heating
Eligible electric cooking and clothes-drying appliances
Energy efficiency measures and related electrical upgrades and remediation
Group 1 may also fund home assessments, permits, installation, quality
control, surveys and administration (capped at 15% of its allocation)
Group 2 receives services rather than funds
IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Eligible homes must be occupied primary residences in California, built
before January 1, 2020, owned or managed by a Tribe or Tribal organization,
or owned by an enrolled Tribal member; homes need not be on Tribal land
Homes must use fossil fuel for space or water heating. Install a
space-conditioning heat pump or heat pump water heater; at least two
for space heating, water heating, cooking and clothes drying must be
electric afterward.
New construction, vacation homes, short-term rentals, solar PV, standalone
batteries, new fossil-fuel equipment and simultaneous Statewide Direct
Install participation are excluded.
Average remediation/electrical-upgrade caps: $6,000 per single-family or
multifamily unit; $7,200 per manufactured/mobile home.
