TYPE OF PROGRAM
The Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program is a competitive grant program that funds community-led projects reducing greenhouse gas emissions through neighborhood-level transformative climate community plans. It supports integrated strategies that improve environmental conditions, public health, economic opportunity, and climate resilience while empowering communities disproportionately impacted by pollution. It prioritizes investments in communities most burdened by environmental, socioeconomic, and health inequities, including Tribal communities.
WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR?
Planning Grants (up to $300,000):
Capacity building, policy/code evaluation and updates, fiscal analyses, climate action/adaptation plans, inclusive community engagement, needs assessments, partnership development, Collaborative Governance Structure preparation, health equity goal-setting, and site identification/preparation for future projects (no land acquisition or construction).
Project Development Grants (up to $5 million):
Pre-development activities (feasibility studies, market analysis, environmental assessments, remediation, site/development plans, design engineering, permitting, financial planning), pilot/demonstration projects, infrastructure pre-development (water/wastewater), capacity building, and other planning that advances community-prioritized sites.
PARTNERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
Co-Applicants are entities other than the Lead Applicant that partner on the application (and become Partners if awarded). Planning Grants require at least one Co-Applicant; Project Development Grants require at least two Co-Applicants. California Native American Tribes and Tribally-owned nonprofits may apply without Co-Applicants in certain circumstances.
