TYPE OF PROGRAM

The Unleashing Tribal Energy Development Program supports Tribes in advancing affordable, reliable, and secure energy in Indian Country through the planning, development, and deployment of Tribal energy resources. The program is designed to help Tribes lower or stabilize energy costs, expand energy access, and strengthen Tribal economic development and energy sovereignty.


WHO MANAGES IT?

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) – Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs.


WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR?

  • Construction and installation of Tribal community-scale energy projects to meet the needs of the community. (Projects must be implementation-ready, with completed feasibility studies and detailed engineering.)

  • Predevelopment activities required to identify community-scale energy opportunities and bring projects from concept to implementation ready,

  • Planning, assessment, and feasibility activities to de-risk and advance development for large-scale Tribal energy projects that provide opportunities for revenue generation and economic development.


ELIGIBILITY

  • Federally recognized Tribes, Alaska Native corporations, Tribal organizations, and Tribal colleges/universities


WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT?

  • Total Funding Available: $50 million

  • Award Sizes: • Up to $7.5M (deployment projects)

    • Up to $1.5M (community planning)

    • Up to $2.5M (large-scale planning)

  • Cost Share:

    • 10% (deployment projects only)

    • 0% (planning and feasibility projects)

  • Project Timeline: 12–48 months
