TYPE OF PROGRAM
The NEVI Formula Program is a federally funded initiative under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that provides competitive grants to deploy DC fast-charging stations along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs) in California. The program focuses on building a reliable, publicly accessible fast-charging network that meets federal standards for power, interoperability, and uptime.
WHO MANAGES IT?
The California Energy Commission (CEC), in coordination with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR?
DC fast charging equipment (minimum 150 kW per port)
Installation and construction costs
Electrical upgrades and utility interconnection
Site preparation, trenching, and paving
Network hardware, software, and commissioning
Required signage and data reporting systems
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
California Tribal Organizations serving California Native American Tribes
Private entities except investor-owned utilities
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT?
Award Amount: Up to 80% of eligible project costs
Cost Share: Minimum 20% non-federal match required
Minimum Charger Output: 150 kW per port
Project Timeline: Typically 24–36 months from award to operation
Build out California’s fast-charging corridors and supporta statewide, reliable EV network through NEVI funding.
